Yes No Wave Music lahir 2 tahun setelahnya.
Atas hal ini, saya sangat antusias saat Ababil Ashari menawarkan Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records untuk bergabung di Yes No Wave Music. Berikut ini profil Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records:
Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records is an Indonesian specialist netlabel that focuses on conceptual music and lo-fi recordings. It is headed and curated by Shorthand Phonetics’ Ababil Ashari.
Vision and Mission
Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records sees itself as a safe-haven for experimental, lo-fi and/or conceptual Indonesian music. This label will actively seek out music that is unorthodoxly made, conceptualized and recorded to be shown as example of what is possible with modern lo-fi production.
Established in 2004, the label began by releasing the early lo-fi outsider recordings of Shorthand Phonetics up until the massive relative success of the tenth Tsefula/Tsefuelha release of Shorthand Phonetics debut album “Fanfiction: From the Absurdly Serious to the Absurdly Serious” (TSE 010 / 2006). “Fanfiction” has racked up 25.000+ downloads for the netlabel and introduced Shorthand Phonetics to the world-at-large thanks to its participation in the American Wizard Rock scene.
The next year the label released the second Shorthand Phonetics album “Apparently, I’m in Medicine / Love, or, the Illusion of the Beginning Symptoms of It” (TSE 013 / 2007) to a less than stellar reception. This maybe attributed to the shift in sound the album had brought and the elimination of wizard-rock related lyrics from the bands’ music.
Now, around this time Shorthand Phonetics, still a relative unknown in the Indonesian music scene, was courted by Yogyakarta netlabel Yes No Wave Music. Searching for national validation Shorthand Phonetics agreed to re-release the outfits’ second album unaltered to the national audience (YESNO 008 / 2007). This saw a surge of interest for Shorthand Phonetics as evidenced by its inclusion in the Jakarta Post indie music column “Underground Hum”.
It was so that Shorthand Phonetics will continue to release albums and other significant material on now internationally recognized Yes No Wave Music and release fringe material such as singles and eps on Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records.
During these times Yes No Wave Music began distributing high-profile releases from landmark Indonesian indie bands The Upstairs, White Shoes and the Couples Company and Sajama Cut while also releasing Shorthand Phonetics third album “Fire! (I Could Have Died and All I Could Think About Was My Charred Diary)” (YESNO 022 / 2008).
In 2009, Ababil Ashari had the idea of having a vanity label under the supervision of Yes No Wave for the more esotoric, conceptual music thats bubbling under the popular indie scene such as space-folk singer Dub Video Dub, experimental-noise outfit Concrete Aluminum, E-Mo and dark-post-punk-revivalists Papa Onta Cult. So as of 2009, Tsefula/Tsefuelha found itself to be under the wing of Yes No Wave Music with an eye to reach out to experimental music makers out there and make them known…
